Slurry Separation

Patented 4D Separation System™

4-Layer Separation Built for Dredged Slurry

The patented 4D Separation System™ is a dredging-specific screen design that separates and dewaters slurry through four progressive layers inside one screen panel. Instead of overloading a single deck, the system stages the work, protects the lower layers, improves screen life, and supports higher, more stable throughput under difficult slurry conditions.

One Screen Panel. Four Progressive Separation Layers.

The coarse scalping mesh is built into the 4D screen and bonded to three finer separation layers for maximum efficiency in a single, maintenance-friendly panel.

Layer 1 | Coarse Scalping Layer (Built-In)
Removes large rocks, debris, sticks, and oversized material. Protects lower layers from impact and blinding.
  • Open area target: approximately 30%–40%
  • Best for initial impact handling and heavy debris removal

Removes medium-sized particles and distributes material evenly across lower layers to prevent overload.

  • Open area target: approximately 20%–30%
  • Improves flow stability and bulk solids management

Captures fine solids and improves separation efficiency where cleaner water and a tighter cut are needed.

  • Open area target: approximately 12%–20%
  • Improves solids cut and reduces carryover

Removes remaining fine solids and produces drier discharged material with minimal residual moisture.

  • Open area target: approximately 5%–10%
  • Focused on final dewatering and discharge quality

Why 4 Layers Outperform Traditional Screens

Prevents overload by distributing separation work across multiple stages

Reduces blinding by managing solids progressively

Protects lower layers from premature wear and impact loading

Improves throughput under changing slurry conditions

Produces drier solids with lower water carryover

Creates a more stable process for direct pump-fed dredging slurry

Built for Tough Water Environments

The 4D screen concept is intended for demanding environments such as dredging tailings ponds, wastewater ponds, lakes and reservoirs, and environmental remediation projects where the solids are variable, abrasive, and difficult to dewater efficiently with conventional shaker screens.
